For the first half of 2013, the Legislation, Policy and Programs Branch expanded its ongoing review of the content and presentation of the Criminal Justice Statistical Profile (Profile) by conducting a consultation process with Government and community stakeholders.
The stated aim of the consultation process was to consider the following key questions:
Public submissions were invited after tabling of the December 2012 Profile on 28 February 2013 and remained open until 30 April 2013. In addition, a series of stakeholder meetings were held with various internal and external fora. The following agencies were invited to make submissions about the Profile:
In addition, all data contributing agencies were consulted along with a number of additional ACT Government agencies that had an interest in the Profile:
Following research into statistical publications from other jurisdictions and an assessment of the submissions made to the review 14 recommendations were developed and endorsed by the Attorney General. Thirteen of the 14 recommendations were introduced into the September 2013 Profile [PDF 6.6 MB].
The 2013 Review of the Criminal Justice Statistical Profile Report [PDF 2.2 MB] (2013 Review), endorsed by the Attorney-General in July 2013, contained 14 recommendations which resulted in a broad range of changes to the Profile including: the incorporation of additional criminal justice data; the provision of more analysis on the data set; the amalgamation and expansion of the explanatory notes that support the Profile; and, an improved format and presentation. As a consequence of the 2013 Review, the September 2013 Profile contained a total of 74 tables – including 24 new tables and 27 revised tables containing additional data or improved table structure.
