During the 2020-21 reporting period, the ESA made progress against the priorities outlined in the ESA Strategic Plan around our preparedness and our capabilities. Major achievements for the ESA during this year included:

  • Implementation of recommendations from reviews into 2019-20 bushfires and Royal Commission into National Natural Disaster Arrangements
  • Support for ACT Government Covid-19 pandemic response, particularly by ACT SES volunteers
  • Addition of an eleventh 24/7 ambulance crew to meet increasing demand for ambulance services
  • 36 new firefighters recruited and trained
  • Major equipment upgrades for firefighting and rescue
  • 57 new volunteer members for ACT Rural Fire Service
  • Roll-out of functional strength and conditioning programs for operational emergency services personnel, and
  • Development of an agency-wide preparedness cycle.
