Legal Aid ACT helps people in the ACT with their legal problems, especially people who are socially or economically disadvantaged. We can help in criminal law, family law and some civil law matters.
More commonly known for their role in providing free legal advice, Legal Aid ACT also provides on duty lawyers at the ACT Law Courts and the ACAT.
If you cannot afford a lawyer, you may apply for a grant of legal assistance through Legal Aid ACT to help you pay for a lawyer to run your case.
Legal Aid ACT's Family Dispute Resolution service helps people resolve family disputes. Staff from the office also run community legal education workshops and provide free publications to the community.
