Reducing the number of electronic gaming machines

In March 2022, the ACT Government announced it is re-establishing the Gaming Machine Authorisation Surrender Incentive to support Canberra’s community clubs while reducing the harm caused by electronic gaming machines

Under the Surrender Incentive, the ACT Government will provide:

  • $15,000 per gaming machine authorisation surrendered or
  • $20,000 per gaming machine authorisation surrendered if the licensee surrenders all the authorisations within a venue and surrenders their authorisation certificate.

The Surrender Incentive is available to ACT club and hotel licensees and is ready to commence.

The Incentive Payment is available until the total allocated funding amount of $1.74 million has been expended, or until 11.59pm on 31 December 2022, whichever occurs first.

  2. payment of government fees, charges, taxes or fines other than land and planning-related payments, fees and charges.
