The Justice and Community Safety Directorate has a vision for emergency services that is:

“A prepared community supported by an expert and timely emergency service response.”

To achieve this the Directorate, through the Emergency Services Agency works to:

• reduce and prevent the impact of emergencies
• ensure the preparedness of the community, and
• have resources and services ready to respond to emergencies should they occur.

The Emergency Services Agency integrates the:

• ACT Ambulance Service
• ACT Fire & Rescue
• ACT State Emergency Service, and
• ACT Rural Fire Service.

These services, together with a range of supporting groups, provide risk planning, training, fleet communications and technology services.

The Agency relies on key support from the community, Territory and Commonwealth government and non-government agencies to deliver services.

The ACT Emergency Services Agency operates under the provisions of the Emergencies Act 2004.
